This urban plaza is designed to provide a focus for the city center. The design has gained widespread approval and praise from the local press, private citizens and the City Council.

 

The plaza is conceived as the only true urban gathering place for the City of San Rafael,

the county seat of Marin.  Inspired by European town plazas, as found in Italy or Brussels, it also includes a dramatic water-wall feature as a backdrop for this important civic amenity.

 

The San Rafael City Plaza is widely used as a community gathering place and venue for a myriad of events.

 

Additionally, Daniel Macdonald AIA Architects is also the architect for Rafael Town Center. 

The Plaza was intentionally designed to blend and interact with the retail and restaurant uses at the ground floor of the building.
